Tie-dye: a must have for your wardrobe

Tie-dye is back! As you might have noticed, tie-dye print populated the 2018 collections and it will probably be in vogue for the following years as well.

Tie-dye print became quite popular in the early 1960s and 1970s  when it was the symbol of the radical lifestyles of that period. Nowadays, you might consider it as a form of escapism from the classic patterns that we are used to.

It’s nothing but the result of an ancient resist-dyeing technique, which consists of protecting certain parts of a fabric so the dye doesn’t reach it.

However, nowadays there are several kinds of tie-dye effects. Some techniques such as the firecracker or the ice tie-dye involve a mix of bright colours while others present just a solid colour tie-dye.

You can find plenty of items with this striking effect. Indeed, it is used for T-shirts, sneakers, shirts and trousers.

A nice casual outfit might be wearing a tie-dye shirt, blue jeans and white Nike Air Force 1. You can choose the colour you like more fo your tie-dye T-shirt as you will wear neutral sneakers and blue jeans which can be matched with all colours.

Keep a tie-dye t-shirt in your wardrobe and create your own style with it!

How to choose your wallet

The two main aspects you should focus on when buying a wallet are functionality and presentability.

What do we mean with functionality?

Your wallet should allow you to carry a good amount of cash.  Moreover, you will probably need to carry some credit cards, an ID card, business cards and photos.

What things you should not put in your wallet to optimise space?

Discount cards, medical cards, coins, receipts and social security cards are all items that can make your wallets too heavy.

What kind of wallet should you buy?

First, you need to understand your need. Both if you are a businessman or an employee, a classic bi-fold wallet is always a good choice. It usually features a spacious note compartment and some card slots. Probably if you have several bank accounts, you might consider going for a cardholder rather than a bi-fold wallet.

Moreover, if you are a gym guy you might consider to get a tri-fold wallet, which usually features a coin purse, zipped compartments, multiple interior card slots for your gym membership card or any other memberships you can have with other supplement retailers.

Focusing on presentability, I really recommend you get a true leather wallet if you want both to look stylish and have a good quality item.

However, if you need a tri-fold wallet for your gym time, you can buy one in synthetic materials as well. In the second case, I will look for a waterproof wallet just in case you could spill some liquids over your wallet.

Understand your need and choose a stylish wallet to complete your outfit!

An essential item for every traveller

passport holder.jpg

Are you a travelholic? Have you already planned a new trip?

If so, have you ever thought about protecting your costly passport?

We all know how expensive and time consuming is to get a new passport.

Therefore, if you want to keep your current passport in good conditions or even worse if you don’t want to replace it before its expiration date, I really suggest you buy a passport holder.

It will protect your passport by adding a new accessory to your airport outfit.

What kind of passport holder should you buy?

Well, I think that it can be very useful to get a passport holder which features from 2 to 3 slot cards, a passport slot and a pocket for your boarding pass.

What kind of texture?

It’s really up to you. You can get a true leather passport holder if you want to spend more or buy one in artificial leather if you want to go cheaper.

You can also choose other materials such as cotton, denim or suede.

Some passports holders feature a classic script ‘PASSPORT’. It’s kind of cool but why don’t you tailor yours?

Add your initials to your passport cover or maybe get a graphic print featuring one of your favourite photos.

There are plenty of ways to tailor your passport holder to make it unique.

Save your passport and add a new piece to your collection!

A timeless piece: the leather jacket

leather jacket 1.jpg

Whether or not it cost you a fortune to buy one, the leather jacket is a piece of clothing that cannot miss in your wardrobe. Easy to wear and versatile, it’s always a safe option to look cool.

How to wear it?

Well, it depends on the kind of leather jacket you have but generally, I really like to wear a black leather jacket with an olive green shirt, beige Chino pants, and black Derby shoes. I think it’s a supreme outfit that can be used both in a night out with friends and other casual events.

However, let’s have a look at three types of leather jackets and how to match them with other items.

  • Biker jacket

The biker jacket is one of the most popular leather jackets at the moment. It was introduced by the American brand Schott in the 1920s. Since then new versions of the leather jackets were designed, however, some main features like zip details are always present.

You can match it with a basic white T-shirt, dark grey skinny jeans and black Chelsea boots. Try it and I can assure you will look like a perfect biker!

  • Aviator jacket

As the name might suggest, the Aviator jacket has its origins from the airforce. During the years these jacket has changed some details by keeping its main features such as the Shearling lining.

Your next ootd (outfit of the day) could be made of a brown Aviator jacket, burgundy sweater, straight leg blue jeans and dark brown combat shoes.

  • Bomber jacket

The bomber jacket appeared for the first time during the Second World War. Pilots used to wear a Shearling lined bomber jacket as it kept them warm.

Nowadays, there are several types of bomber jackets and you can really pick up your favourite textile. From suede to smooth leather you can design your own style.

I would suggest you wear a black bomber leather jacket with a grey hoodie, ripped faded light blue jeans and a pair of black leather Converse Chuck Taylor All Star.

Add a leather jacket to your wardrobe and create your own timeless style.

Derby shoes or Oxford shoes?

Which are your favourite brogues? Do you know what is the difference between them. Let’s have a look together and learn how to wear them.

  • Oxford shoes

As you might have noticed, the main difference involves the lacing system. The quarters (the side tabs perforated with shoelace eyelets) are sewn under the vamp (the upper part of the shoe). Therefore, the main features of Oxford shoes will be a closed lacing system and an elongated toe.

When should you wear Oxford shoes?

Well, you should wear Oxford shoes on formal occasions. At work, during ceremonies or a business meeting, Oxford shoes will always match perfectly with your suit.

Some Oxford shoes can be more casual than others due to contrast panels or a color-block design. However, by choosing basic Oxford shoes you will always look elegant and ready to face all formal events in your life.

Match a pair of brown Oxford shoes with a blue windowpane suit to look supremely stylish!

  • Derby shoes

As you can see, Derby shoes are characterised by an open lacing system. The quarters are stitched on the top of the vamp which is not sewn with the tongue.

The Derby shoes are less formal than brogues. However, they account for a good item to use when we want to create our smart casual look. Indeed, they will give us that perfect elegant touch to our style but being too formal.

Match your navy Derby shoes with a navy blazer, a white shirt and burgundy Chinos for a perfect smart casual look!

4 patterns you should have in your wardrobe!

Which patterns do you have in your wardrobe? Do you know how to match them? Patterns can play a crucial role when it comes to defining your style and personality.

I don’t think we can state which are the best fashion patterns as they really depend on your taste and if you feel comfortable with a piece of cloth that has a specific pattern.

However, we will analyse four vogue patterns that are widely used nowadays.

  • Polka dots

polka dots.jpg

As you might have noticed, there is a connection between this pattern and the polka dance that became quite popular in Europe and North America in the first half of the    19th century. Maybe, the round shape of this pattern is associated with the circular shapes made by couples when they dance the polka.

Polka dots are both used for casual or formal outfits.  When it comes to a casual outfit you can use this pattern both for shirts and trousers.

By using polka dots you can really diversify what colour you want to go for. Blue and black shirts with white dots are the most common ones, but you can really vary both the colour and the size of your polka dots to personalise your style.

If you wear a polka dot shirt or polka dot trousers try to keep the rest of your look neutral. So, if you wear a polka dot shirt match it with plain trousers or blue jeans. Likewise, if you wear polka dot trousers you can match them with a basic T-shirt, shirt or pullover.

However, if you really want to put your style to the next level and you want to try something new, you can mix you polka dot trousers with a Breton stripes top.

Remember when in doubt, polka dots and stripes always work!

  • Stripes

Stripes are a very versatile pattern and will allow you to look effortlessly stylish. Indeed, you just need to wear a striped tee and match it with basic pants or jeans. Jeans are actually the best friend of stripes as they create together a timeless look.

So, it can be a wise choice to always keep a striped T-shirt in your wardrobe. You can wear it both in the morning and in the evening, so if you have had a busy afternoon and you want to grab a drink with your friends afterwards, you don’t need to go home to change your outfit.

Once you get used to the striped patterns you can always add more striped items to your wardrobe such as a striped blazer or a bomber jacket. Namely, a striped blazer is perfect for a night out with your friends. Since blazers tend to have a boxy shape which will be highlighted by the stripes you should wear straight-leg pants or skinny jeans.

  • Checks

Tartan, plaid, Prince of Wales, houndstooth, Madras, gingham, windowpane… which is your favourite check pattern?

Checks account for one of the most common patterns or at least the one who men find easy to wear.

From suiting to streetwear you have a wide range of items you can choose from. Some check patterns such as windowpane (characterised by very wide checks) are more used for suits while other such as plaid (characterised by vertical and horizontal bands that cross one another) are more used for the outdoors.

Why don’t you match your plaid shirt with a quilted vest, dark blue jeans and combat shoes for a perfect casual outfit?

  • Paisley

Paisley pattern is characterized by colourful and curved abstract figures. Its name comes from the town of Paisley, in Scotland, where shawls with this pattern were manufactured.

Indeed, Paisley patterns can be found in several accessories both for men and women such as scarves, ties and pocket squares.

However, you can even find Paisley shorts, T-shirt and shirts.

Match your blue Paisley shorts with a white polo shirt and blue espadrilles to enjoy these last summer days!

Start wearing these patterns and have fun by matching them!

It’s summertime! Wait a minute, summer it’s almost over… OK, you are right but it’s never too late to wear men’s trendy clothing.

So, do know what should you wear this summer?

Well, if you don’t, we will analyse together the 5 must-have of men’s clothing.

  • A suitable suit for your working life

According to a recent study, only one in ten employees wear a suit to work.  Why?

People do not feel comfortable while wearing a suit.  Some suits have a slim fit that can be quite tiring to wear in a full working day.

Luckily, designers are moving towards a slouchy and relaxed fit that is easily wearable all day long.

Therefore, you can be supremely stylish by wearing your suits and feeling comfortable just like you are while wearing your jumpsuit.

  • Yellow for fashion fellows

Millenial pink is the past now it’s time for Gen-Z Yellow!

Yellow undoubtedly dominated the catwalk this season, from canary to lemon. Yellow has been used for windbreaker jackets, nylon jumpsuits, trainers and patent parkas.  Don’t forget to add a hint of yellow to your summer wardrobe!

  • Retro sportswear: a vintage style that looks ahead

Are you a 90s nostalgic? Well, it’s time to wear the sportswear that refers to those years.

Due to the great success of the World Cup this summer, designers focused on the sports world.

Tracksuits, shorts, football shirts, faded rugby tops and varsity sweaters can be used for all casual occasions.

  • Short shorts

It seems like only yesterday that the fashion of below-knee shorts reached a fever pitch. I wouldn’t say that they are out of fashion but if you really want to look fashionable this summer then have a go with short shorts.  Pinstripe, paisley, chequered… wear your favourite pattern and match them with a minimal T-shirt or polo shirt.  Complete then your fresh look with a pair of espadrilles or boat-shoes.

  • I vote for trench coats

If you find yourself in a chilly location in summertime then bring with you a cool trench coat.  Pick up an oversized trench coat for a comfortable fit. You can wear it both with long or cropped sleeves. Some designers proposed it with abstract prints.

So, what are you waiting for?

Fasten your belt and enjoy your stylish summer!

Are you dressing smart casual?

In the past, dress codes were more defined than nowadays. People knew exactly what to wear for a specific occasion either it was a formal or a casual event. However, dress codes are changing according to the new needs of people.

Probably, you have already heard about smart casual but did not receive a clear definition of it and a practical way to implement this dress code in your daily life.

What is smart casual?

Well, you might think you just need to pick up randomly something formal like a suit shirt and matches it with something casual such as tennis shoes…

No way!

To create your perfect smart casual dress code you should use clothes that I will ideally put in a ‘grey area’.  All clothes that are not too casual or too formal should be part of this category.

For instance, if you mix a polo shirt with chino pants and brogues shoes, you will find yourself in that grey area that I mentioned before.

If you want to avoid any possible mistakes do not use pieces of clothing that are extremely casual such as ripped jeans, trainers, sweatpants, and hoodies or that are extremely formal such as pleated suit pants, suit shirts, suit jackets, ties and bow ties.

So, what should you wear?

Well, you can replace a suit jacket with a more casual fitted blazer.

In addition, rather than wear a formal suit shirt you can switch to a plaid or chequered shirt. You can also wear other patterns such as tartan, striped, houndstooth or Paisley.

Just keep in mind if your blazer has already a pattern in that case you should wear basic shirts.  So, in that case, you could wear a basic shirt with a chest pocket that will give you a less formal look than a basic suit shirt.

When it comes to trousers, I suggest wearing chino trousers.  I think they account for a perfect nuance between smart and casual. You can also wear trousers with a different textile such as corduroy in winter time or linen in the summer.

Regarding the shoe choice, I think that brogues shoes, both Oxford shoes, and Derby shoes, are still the best option. Maybe you could find some two-tone brogues shoes rather than the classic black ones.

In the summertime, if you think it’s too hot to wear brogues shoes you could switch to boat shoes or penny loafers.

Finally,  there are no strict rules about the perfect smart casual dress code as it really depends on the event that you are going to attend.

For instance, if you need to attend a business party or a dinner in a restaurant with some colleagues, well it’s better to follow all the types that I mentioned before.

However, if you need to go in a night out with your friends and still want to keep that smart touch but being a little bit more sporty then you could even wear designer sneakers with blue jeans and always keeping your blazer and shirt.

All this is going to show that you always need to wear something that you are comfortable with and it makes you feel confident in yourself.

It doesn’t matter what you wear but how do you wear! Keep it in mind!
